The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, was a dazzling celebration of Black fashion and culture. Themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, the event honored the rich history and artistry of Black dandyism, with a dress code aptly titled “Tailored for You” . 

A Celebration of Black Dandyism

This year’s theme spotlighted the elegance and innovation of Black menswear, drawing inspiration from Monica Miller’s seminal work, Slaves to Fashion. The exhibition and gala paid homage to the sartorial excellence that has long been a cornerstone of Black cultural expression . 

Star-Studded Co-Chairs and Guests

The event was co-chaired by luminaries such as Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and A$AP Rocky, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair . Notable attendees included Rihanna, who announced her third pregnancy in a striking Marc Jacobs ensemble, and Zendaya, who turned heads in a Louis Vuitton zoot suit .  

Memorable Fashion Moments
• Diana Ross made a grand entrance in a voluminous white feathered gown with an 18-foot train embroidered with her family’s names . 
• Halle Berry returned to the Met Gala after a seven-year hiatus, stunning in a sheer, black-striped gown by LaQuan Smith, paired with a Cartier snow leopard diamond necklace that took over 1,000 hours to craft . 
• Teyana Taylor captivated attendees in a self-designed ensemble co-created with Ruth E. Carter, featuring a pinstriped suit, red velvet waistcoat, and dramatic accessories . 

Inside the Gala

The evening featured surprise performances by music legends Stevie Wonder and Usher. Usher energized the crowd with dynamic renditions of his hits, while Stevie Wonder delivered a powerful set of classics, concluding with a duet of “Another Star” with Usher .
